Developmental and Socio-Economic Adversities
Human developments in mind, brain and body are continually shaped by many events right from the very beginning of conception. Important events such as poor mental health of mother, pre-term birth, poor diet, low body weight at birth, complicated delivery, disadvantaged living environment, low family income, inadequate parenting and many other factors emerging before and around birth as well as in early childhood may hinder normal development in social, emotional and cognitive abilities. Many lifelong health issues may surface in early life as developmental problems like language delay, sleep and eating problems. While many of these factors can mutually affect each other to worsen the situation, timely help to relieve some key factors can still change the outlook of health and developmental issues.
“It is thus never too late to realize and action. Awareness is the key to early identification.”
