Professor Kelvin TSOI Kam-fai
Biography
Prof. Kelvin Tsoi is an Associate Professor of the School of Public Health and Primary Care, Institute of Ageing, and a Research Associate Professor of the Big Data Decision Analytics Research Centre of The Chinese University Hong Kong since 2013. He received undergraduate training in Statistics and postgraduate PhD degree in Medical Sciences. Prof. Tsoi developed a strong interest in evidence-based medicine, digital epidemiology, and big-data research for healthcare application. He has more than eight years of experience in conducting evidence-based research and service evaluation projects involving database management, cost-effectiveness appraisal and statistical modeling techniques. Before joining the School, Prof. Tsoi worked as a research scientist with a role of statistician in Hospital Authority (HA). He led projects covering a wide range of challenging areas on chronic diseases, including service demand projection for schizophrenia and dementia, service impacts from the patients with colorectal cancer, and service evaluation on patient support programme among diabetic subjects. The experience of database management enhanced his understanding of the HA database structures and also the potential research topics. His research interests cover non-communicable diseases for ageing population, including cancer, hypertension, and cognitive impairment.
